Wes Gordon, Misha Nonoo, Simon Spurr Win Rising Star Awards

The most current winners of Fashion Group International’s Rising Star awards were named yesterday at a unique awards luncheon. Two designers, Wes Gordon and Nonoo’s Misha Nonoo, tied for the womenswear win Simon Spurr took home the menswear trophy. Rising Star titles remain a prestigious award for young designers, and there’s an added bonus — as Wes Gordon noted in his acceptance speech, the ceremony supplied time for a nice lengthy lunch break in the otherwise frantic run-up to fashion week.

Envelope clutches rest upon a white piano. Minimal gold rings sit beside crystals on the countertops. Shoes are perfectly paired on the floor. Of course I’m talking about Assembly New York.

The kid of Greg Armas’ adore of fashion and art, Assembly New York is an aesthete’s wet dream. Not only is it a clothing shop, but it is also its personal label, launching womenswear at fashion week for fall 2012. With his calm demeanor and soft-spoken nature, Greg Armas is the thoughtful brains behind Assembly New York’s good results. I sat down with him to talk about his budding company and specifically how he makes it in fashion right now.

Fashionista: How did Assembly New York, the shop and the brand, come to exist?
Greg Armas: Initially it was a continuation of a shop I had in LA, known as Scout Los Angeles. October, three years ago, is when I began Assembly NY. It was initially two doors down, and then October of last year we moved into this location, and it actually grew into a men’s and women’s store. When Assembly opened it was pretty significantly for the guys, but then we began obtaining far more and a lot more females coming in and purchasing the mens stuff, so when we moved we decided to do both.

At 1st it seems an unlikely pairing, but nevertheless it is true. Rihanna and Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts are joining forces to launch a brand new fashion-based Tv show for Sky Living.

Rihanna’s function will be to search Britain for the subsequent generation of fashion designers. She is also executive producer and be involved in the casting and post-production of the yet unnamed show. Whilst Nicola’s job will be to host the series which sees contestants vie for the opportunity to design a costumer for Rihanna’s Wireless efficiency in Hyde Park on July 8.

“I have been very fortunate to work with some really incredible designers and stylists all through my profession, and they have been instrumental in creating certain my creative vision reaches the stage,” mentioned Rihanna. “I am excited to adhere to the journey of our aspiring contestants and see how their individuality influences their efforts during the course of the show.”

Aubrey Plaza, the stone-faced comedienne who holds her own among TV’s (arguably) very best comedic cast on Parks and Recreation, just returned from what was her most significant Sundance yet.

The actress was there to promote Safety Not Guaranteed, the film based off that well-known 90s individual ad in which a person posted, “Wanted: Someone to go back in time with me…Must bring your own weapons. Safety not guaranteed. I have only done this as soon as prior to.”

What turned into an Net meme and favored late night joke is now a full fledged film starring Kristen Bell, New Girl‘s Jake Johnson and Plaza.  We talked to the latter about how the watching herself on screen, the film’s surprise ending, and what comes next.
