Olivier Zahm’s Girlfriend Dumped Him and He Blogged About It

Purple editor Olivier Zahm has never been a one-woman kind of guy — a quick look at his magazine or blog could tell you that. The open relationships he favors seems like a fine idea if both people use condoms and are willing to each swing — what Zahm calls an “alternative love lifestyle.” But apparently being in an open relationship doesn’t mean you can’t get dumped for another primary lover and left in the dust, which is just what happened to Zahm. His primary lover, Natacha Ramsay, just broke up with him for one of her secondary lovers, and Zahm blogged about it.
To all the anonymous friends who follow my life on the Purple Diary, I have to tell you that I’m in a lot of pain. Natacha Ramsay dumped me on Sunday. She ran away with her lover (with whom she has had a long romance that I was aware of and accepted) for a summer of love. She called me to tell me that she loves him, that we are finished. I asked her to come back two times and she said no two times. As you know if you follow the Purple Diary I try to create and promote an alternative love lifestyle (that I used to call in French La Communauté des Amants). Natacha’s decision to leave me so brutally and painfully will certainly be seen by conservative people as a clear feminine revenge against the lifestyle Natacha and I used to share, and think that I’m a dreamer. Right now I’m just a mess. But I will hopefully recover soon and offer you some more pictures of love and sex.

Chelsea Clinton Wedding Gown Watch: Former First Daughter to Wear Vera Wang

Chelsea Clinton’s wedding speculation has become somewhat of a national pastime. And with the wedding just days away, new details on the former First Daughter’s nuptials are fast emerging. Though many expected the bride to wear Oscar de la Renta, it appears Chelsea will walk down the aisle in a Vera Wang wedding gown. She was spotted entering Wang’s building on West 39th Street yesterday in full makeup and a glam up-do. Wang is also rumored to have designed the dresses for the bridesmaids and flower girls. De la Renta is not without his wedding credits, the iconic designer has created a gown for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who now goes by MOTB (short for mother of the bride). And now the world awaits the first photos of the bride.
The Selby on Glenn O’Brien and Gina Nanni

The Selby stopped in for a visit to the Litchfield, CT home of writer, Glenn O’Brien and wife, Gina Nanni. (T Magazine did a similar photo profile of their home back in 2008). What you get from the Selby of course is a close-up look at almost everything and inspires the owners of the home as well – from old books to the full pool in the rear of the home. The hand written interviews toward the end add to the flavor of the photo essay.

Sofia Coppola to direct new Dior ads
Sofia Coppola has already directed a fragrance commercail for Miss Dior Cherie a few years ago as well as designed both handbag and shoes for Louis Vuitton, so she’s def. not a newbie to the fashion industry. Apart from that, she’s actually even starred in a LV ad. Rumors now is that she’s getting back to work for Dior, and after seen in Paris directing (photos underneath), we think she’s there to direct the new fragrance for Dior starring Natalie Portman, who signed on to be the new front-face for Dior Perfums last month.

Iman Helps You Redecorate Your House
Something about supermodels and the home interiors business tells me it’s not a coincidence that Iman has her own line of fabrics – Iman Home. In collaboration with P/K Lifestyles, a division of P/Kaufmann (and available this very September in Calico Corners and Calico Home stores), the new fabrics look amazing and sound inviting.
Iman actually was an active part of the creative process, especially with the names:“I had all the fabrics in front of me. Istanbul Sunset reminded me of a Rothko painting, but it also reminded me of Turkey. All of the naming took a day and a lot of Googling. I wanted to find, for instance, where peacocks are from. It’s hard to brainstorm, but once you start going, you get in a groove. I wanted to call the solids Paparazzi, but Lady Gaga already took that, so I went with Glitterati.”
The outcome? 15 decorative fabrics grouped in Urban Eclectic and Modern Glamour: Alexandria Scroll, Alhambra Amour, Assyrian Vine, Deauville Dance, Glitterati, Istambul Sunset, Java Moon, Punjab Peacock, Sultana Lattice, Zebra Oasis. Sounds interesting? (via 1, 2, 3) Read more…

Champagne Cork Coat Hook

It’s been a while since we featured design related products here, so we thought we’d get back into the swing of things with this coat hook. We’re all about the unexpected and this champagne cork coat hook is the very definition. It’s one of those ’so simple it’s genius’ products; although a more cynical man might call it ’so simple why don’t you make it yourself’ product. Either way, it’ll be a talking point in any household. (Hidden Art)

Tie-Dye Goes Upscale at the Cross-Cultural Exhibition “To Dye For: A World Saturated in Color”
With so much tie-dye on the runways of late, it's fun to explore the history of the technique which spans both the centuries and the globe. The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco (FAMSF) is investigating the trend in "To Dye For: A World Saturated in Color," a new exhibition opening at the de Young on July 31 which features over 50 textiles and costumes from a variety of cultures and historical periods that include a diverse array of resist-dye examples from Africa,
Asia and the Americas.
Tie-dye is just one example of the resist-dye method, an inclusive term used for the process of dyeing textiles to form patterns by preventing dye from reaching specific areas of the cloth. Methods of resist dyeing include tie-dye, stitch-resist, batik or wax-resist dyeing, stencil-resist, mordant-resist, and ikat (warp- or weft-resist dyeing). “To Dye For not only highlights the museum’s impressive permanent collection of textiles, but also shows how cultures across the world have used similar techniques for centuries—with results that are sometimes similar, and at other times startlingly different," explains FAMSF textile curator Jill D’Alessandro. "The end result will be a stunning array of
textures, patterns and color.”
