San Francisco’s Chicest Hotel: The Clift

Last week the Glam Editorial Team headed to San Francisco to visit our company headquarters in Brisbane, CA. Though we were in town for a series of meeting, we still needed a chic and inspiring place to stay and so we chose The Clift. The hotel fuses old-world charm with a decidedly modern aesthetic. Eclectic furniture dominates the lobby, while soothing purple paint and minimalist decor infuses the guest rooms. Happy hour at the Redwood Room is a must; the bar’s paneling was rumored to have been cut from a single tree and fittingly the space is a good singles scene for those on the hunt for indulgent brainy types. Located at 465 Geary Street, The Clift put us in close proximity to Saks, Tiffany & Co, Chanel, Oscar de la Renta and more of our favorite haunts. And though the hotel restaurant is delicious, we recommend you head down the block to Sushi Boat (389 Geary Street, 415-781-5111) for the fresh fish and gimmicky presentation–ask for Brian, he’ll cook up anything you want, just tell him Glam sent you. For more information and to book a room visit clifthotel.com.

Velour Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

Velour continues to progress with their Autumn 2010 collection. Some very fine looks to be had. “The overall design concept of Velour springs out of a classic preppy look with traditional garments redesigned in a new stylish, yet effortless, way. We call this Feelgood Preppy. This style has Swedish west coast influences and addresses curious individuals who have an interest in trends but, unlike the fashion slave, are reflective and make their own interpretation.” (thof)

Parabellum Courier Wallet

A new line of men’s accessories popping out of Los Angeles. Parabellum aims to bring even more focus to the art of working leather. “We grew up obsessing about and refurbishing antique and vintage luxury items in the basement of our father’s antique shop on Western Avenue in Hollywood. We learned from our grandfather, who made custom men’s suits by hand in the back of his Haberdashery on West Grand Boulevard in Detroit… We remember when luxury goods grew richer and more luxurious with time and use.”
With this in mind, Parabellum set up to try something new. One of their key features is the use of “Reservation Bison.” “Each hide is carefully selected, and treated in small batches by our micro-tannery, using age-old techniques that allow its elegant natural feel and luxurious texture to radiate.” Their Courier wallet, which features multiple internal snap pockets is a great example of what to expect from Parabellum.

Roberto Cavalli Keeps His Work Life and Personal Life Separate

Cavalli is that rare thing — a straight designer — but though his profession regularly forces him into throngs of beautiful women, he doesn’t let this affect his work. Harper’s Bazaar probed deeper: “‘Of course I think about a beautiful woman to dress, because that’s my way,’ he says with a shrug. Is there a difference? ‘Yes,’ he says. ‘I don’t masturbate thinking about fashion.’” [Harper's Bazaar]
