Dickies Apron for Grilling This Memorial Day Weekend

This is a legendary man to the grill weekend in the United States and slightly beyond. Need the perfect apron or maybe one that will wear in with the same sense as your denim? Valet picks their favorites. “This weekend officially marks the start of grilling season and while I’m no dandy, I certainly don’t like the idea of barbecue sauce or steak splatters marring a perfectly good madras shirt. If an apron was good enough for my grandfather (a BBQ master, according to family lore) then it’s certainly good enough for me. Which got me thinking about all of those old school selvedge shop aprons that have been created lately by Japanese labels and indie denim brands.” The Dickies apron shown above is a steal at 11$US.

Olivier Theyskens Had Been Trying to Create Affordable Fashion for a ‘Long Time’

Olivier Theyskens on his Theory capsule collection: “For a long time, I’ve been looking for a way of working with affordable fashion. I think Theory is the right brand to do this. It was a big intuition for me to do this Theyskens/Theory project — I’m super excited by it! I think today, you can find great things at a great price. As a designer, I’m not a guy that can be put in a niche. I’m a guy who can also put his mind to something more global and accessible. Also, I’ve always been hoping that my friends can buy what I design.” [Style Bubble UK]

Designer Shifts at Alexander McQueen, Theory, & Hermès

It’s been a busy week in the fashion world and some of the industry’s most influential labels are undergoing some major creative shifts. Jean Paul Gaultier is exiting his post as artistic director of Hermès after seven years with the company. He will leave after the Spring 2011 collection hits the Paris runway in October; Gaultier will be succeeded by Lemaire, Lacoste’s Paris-based creative director.
Another Parisian design force is on the move; according to WWD Olivier Theyskens will be creating a capsule collection for Theory. The young ingénue, formerly of Rochas and Nina Ricci, will likely create the kind of decadent eveningwear he is known for.
In the wake of Alexander McQueen’s tragic death, rumors swirled that the house would cease to exist in his wake. But after months of speculation Sarah Burton has been named creative director; Burton has been with the company since 1996 and was most recently McQueen’s first assistant and head of women’s wear design. We are sure she will carry on McQueen’s vision, but we can’t imagine the hoJean Paul Guse without his genius. ~Nola Weinstein
