UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Cqc reminds us to review the UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “Inspired by and designed for the contemporary downtown man, UNIS evokes classic American sportswear. Urbane while easy, elegant without affect, Lee’s understated designs don’t ask for attention, rather they suit the man. Produced and manufactured entirely in its home of New York City, UNIS is just the result of a real relationship between designer, craftsmen, and locale..”

The Designers of Katy Perry’s Met Gala Dress Make Machine-Washable LED Clothes for Plebians

She’s not a necessarily a fashion darling, but Katy Perry’s LED dress was the most talked-about at this year’s Met Gala. A small London-based label called CuteCircuit created the gown for the singer after her stylist saw one of their dresses at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Designer Francesca Rosella founded the label in 2004 after her former employers, Valentino and Esprit, passed on her light-up designs. She believes technologically enhanced apparel is the future of fashion for celebrities and normal people. Though Perry’s dress was a custom creation — “couture” as Rosella says — CuteCircuit makes a ready-to-wear collection that ranges from about $135 to $450. The LEDs in those clothes just require a watch battery. Remove it and you can throw the stuff in the washing machine. And then the dryer.

Molly Sims’ Grayce-ful Must-Haves

Wednesday morning we had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and baubles at the Bryant Park Hotel with Molly Sims. The model/actress invited a group of editors to check out Grayce, her line of jewelry and to celebrate her newly launched e-commerce site graycebymollysims.com. Sims, who is heading to Cabo for her 37th birthday later this month, graciously shared this Mother’s Day shopping tip: “don’t buy what you like, buy what your mom’s going to like.” We think our mom will love the Grayce layered metal chain bracelet with crystal ($125) and for our part, we’re obsessed with these crystal tassel chain earrings in gold ($115).

United Arrows PAPER Summer 2010 Issue

Ah yes. United Arrows JP joins the ranks of inhouse print (and we’re not talking about traidtional lookbooks). Their newly launched PAPER starts off Summer 2010 by covering their take on men’s and women’s fashon. Two different issues are presented seasonally – one for the girls, the other for the bros. Collectors of in-house print rags will need to work some magic (proxy) to dig these up.

Diamonds are a Mom’s Best Friend.
I say "diamonds!" You say…Kohls?! Although the mass retailer probably isn't the first place you think of for buying bling, they have a fab jewelry department stocked with certified diamond earrings, rings, gemstones, pearls, and top-shelf watches. And all at great prices – and that's before you factor in added discounts and savings passes. We've teamed up to give away a pair of classic diamond studs set in gold (below); the round IGI-certified stones are a 1/2 ct tw, regularly priced at $1750, and arrive packaged in a cute white leatherette gift box.
And one lucky mom will be having an amazing Mother's Day.
To win 'em for mom, you'll need to tweet @Fashiontribes twice with the following: Read more…
Design Your Own eCard or eVite with a Snappy Fashion Pic by Patrick McMullan
While most eVite & eCard sites curate the artwork selection for you, pingg's Designer Series allows outside artists, designers, brands, and charities to contribute, adding a cool and creatively-inspired edge to online cards & announcements. “Until now, companies have dictated to customers the designs for their invitations” co founder and CEO Lorien Gabel. “With the emergence of websites such as Etsy and Threadless, we think consumers are really looking for those unique hand-made products that come from a true artisan. We are excited to be the first online invitation site to connect artists with pingg hosts who will admire, use and spread their work.”
A select group of designers, including celeb shooter McMullen, were just launched as part of the expanded Designer Series, which extends an open invite to artists to submit their designs to pingg for early consideration.
