Chanel dropped some new “anniversary” ceramic at Baselworld 2010 with the help of the team at Audemars Piguet Renaud Papi. Looking at the photos really does not do justice to what the mechanics of the watch are doing. You may need to read this twice to grasp the complication.
“The name of this watch is beginning to take on meaning: Rétrograde for the minute hand which reverses its travel for ten minutes during which, at each revolution of the dial, the hand returns to its position under the crown -i.e. between 10 and 20 past each hour, with the minute counted in figures in the magnifying aperture at the bottom of the dial -and Mystérieuse for the mysterious workings of this dual analog and digital display. It is a highly technical and very aesthetically-pleasing watch complication.” One final note on the crown: it’s verticable retractable. The photo above shows its position. (timezone)

The Full-Figured Bra Business Is Booming, and Oprah Is Its ‘Champion’
Maybe she’s not wearing a bra because she couldn’t find a cute one in her size, okay?
Here’s a fun cocktail-party conversation starter: Ten years ago, the median bra size in the U.S. was 36C. Now our nation’s median bra size is 36DD. Our boobs are bigger because we are more obese, of course. While many areas of the economy are doing pretty badly, to say the full-figured bra business is growing rapidly would be an understatement. The number of bigger bras sold increased 7.4 percent from 2008 to 2009, to about 160 million units. Oprah brought full-figured bras into the spotlight when she introduced Bra Fit Interventions to explain the joys of properly fitted bras to women across the nation, and began highlighting Bra Fit Tips for fuller-figured women on her website. From WWD:
“It was definitely a wakeup moment for women when Oprah did her Bra Fit Interventions,” said Maureen Stabnau, senior vice president of merchandising at barenecessities.com. “Oprah is the champion of bra fitting and full-figure bras.”
However, the full-figured bra category has some catching up to do with the category of bras for smaller gals, stylistically speaking. Women with DD, DDD, G, H, and K cups want the same sorts of interesting designs and detailing in their breast supports as smaller-busted chicks. Also, the big-bra business is a bit confused about its own identity, and to reach its full potential they’ll have to clear a few things up. Intimates in the category are referred to as full-figure, full-busted, full-fitted, DD plus, and plus-size, which is confusing.

JCPenney’s Segway-Riding CEO Could Get an $11.4 Million Pay Package This Year
Myron Ullman has to be a pretty happy guy. He’s the CEO of JCPenney, burgeoning fashion powerhouse with mannequins of debatable obeseness, whose roster of designers now includes Charlotte Ronson, Kimora Lee Simmons, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Also, we found a fun series of pictures of him riding a Segway indoors, seemingly for no reason other than that he’s on the board of directors at Segway Inc., at a JCPenney launch event in 2008 for their American Living line. Today, The Wall Street Journal reports that our friend Myron will make more than he needs to (enough to not ever have to shop at JCPenney this year). His pay package will include $1.5 million cash in base salary, plus $1.6 million in both stock options and grants (that he won’t be able to use immediately, but still), bringing his total package to at least $4.7 million.
Penney’s operates under an incentive-based pay system for executives — a common practice for retail operations — so if the store outpaces financial expectations in 2010, Ullman could take home a considerably higher pay package. Analysts predict that Penney’s earnings will come in at $1.54 a share, while Penney’s predicts its earnings will hit $1.55. If Ullman can work those numbers like he can work a Segway, up to $1.58 a share, his package could total $9.5 million. And if he can work them up to $1.86, his package could reach $11.4 million. At that point it caps, and he no longer has incentive to jump-start the next great Penney’s collaborative line, which by all means should be seashell toe rings by Jessica Simpson.
