Civic Duty Spring 2010 Chukka Boot and Sneakers

Our HSb editor sent over these Tyvek sneakers from Civic Duty. While the textile is about as durable as it gets, what took me by surprise is how well they looked when crackled onto the silhouette of the shoe. The sneakers are also said to be breathable. We’ll have more on them as we get it. The chukkas look most interesting.

#PFW Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2010 Collection

On Monday evening Paris’ Grand Palais was transformed into the chicest convent around as Stefano Pilati presented the Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2010 collection. Opening looks featured nun-like hats, and somber black attire, while exaggerated collars and wide leg pants made for elegantly modest looks. The designer added a bit of protection in the form of PVC coated capes and plastic inserts. After a series of dark looks, the show closed with a burst of brightness. Pink, green, yellow and cobalt satin creations left the crowd in a jovial mood. Pilati’s use of color would have done the late Yves Saint Laurent proud. And we’re sure that those who were lucky enough to see the YSL retrospective across the street at the Petit Palais days later could see just how important the brand’s heritage is. ~Nola Weinstein

The Macy’s Fashion Challenge: What to Wear to Pop the Question

So you’ve decided to propose…that’s a huge step and one that requires tons of planning and organizing. The last think you’ll want to worry about is your outfit, but you know you’ll want to be as dashing as ever when you pop the question. You need a look that warrants the momentous occasion without looking too suspicious. Go for a dapper ensemble by pairing a sharp navy blazer with dark denim; a blue button down and slip on sneakers will have you looking and feeling a bit more relaxed. Plus the blazer will conceal the ring you have stashed in your back pocket. What lady can resist this suave ensemble? We know she’ll say yes!

Men’s File Magazine #2

It’s tough to get a men’s magazine off proper, but when you focus in to a market which is looking for another angle on covering their lifestyle, well, you’re sure to get people thinking. That was the selling point when Kiya invited me to preview England’s Men’s File Magazine. He was correct in many ways. Here’s how he puts it. “Men’s File loves American retro but also covers Britain, Europe and Japan: in fact anywhere that classic style exists. You also find revival skateboarding, surfing, travel, work-spaces, cycling, fashion and products.” Revival is the key word. With a mix of vintage style men’s studies on women and motorbikes, and excellent photography, you’ll be in for a surprising classy experience. Selfedge has it local in the States.
