Comune Autumn 2010 Preview

Selectism - Comune Autumn 2010 Preview

Comune celebrates their one year anniversary with the launch of their Autumn 2010 collection. “This collection concentrates heavily on both coated and textured materials to offer a clean, sophisticated design direction taking influence from high-end Japanese design, while continuing to focus on fabric quality, design detail and price awareness. Our goal is to provide clothing that reflects a lifestyle of carefree idealism and support the people that choose to live it through fashion, art and music.”

Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE “G-Couture” by Philip Plein

Selectism - Mercedes-Benz G 55 AMG Mansory LE "G-Couture" by Philip Plein

The title of this post took a while to get right. I blame the hands of AMG and Philip Plein for over-making the Benz G 55 into some thing which is a bit tough for my tastes (hence the massive title). Autoblog agrees. “While we aren’t necessarily against fully cladding a G55 in carbon fiber, our hesitation with the G-Couture is less about the concept and more about the execution. The front end particularly looks overly-styled, and the unpainted fibers seem more appropriate on a sports car. We can, however, appreciate the upgrades done underneath the hood. Mansory has boosted the supercharged V8 to 700 horsepower and 649 lb-ft torque. Necessary? Of course not, but impressive nonetheless.”

Chicks Can Actually Wear a Lot of Gareth Pugh’s New Collection

Gareth Pugh seems to have sobered up. The British wunderkind who used to show ruffs you could serve a three-course buffet on, and other things that wouldn’t fit in a midsize car, showed a pretty wearable but still cool collection in Paris today. Last season he sent models down the runway with giant feathered headdresses, but this season he merely smeared soot on their foreheads and roots. The almost-over-the-knee boots are a nice alternative to last fall’s thigh-highs, which probably never caught on because they often mostly look ridiculous and slutty.

Men’s offerings included a crop top, a nipple-concealing “top” made from straps, wide-leg pants, and coats with skirtlike flaps hanging off the bottom. Absent were protruding metal bits with which one might cut oneself. Menswear on the runway so often looks flamboyant, but if you’re going to a rave in an underground club in Berlin at four in the morning, this stuff is probably perfect.

Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

Selectism - Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 Collection

While the Brits may look at the Topman line in a certain context, Stateside we’re still a bit open to the brand in the same way we’re open to UNIQLO. Follow? Good. With that, we present a preview of the Topman Design Autumn/Winter 2010 offering. It’s their runway friendly line. We’re told some of it may be found through their retail doors but you’ll have more luck online. The use of Earth tones – browns, reds, mustard – may please gentleman looking for more than solids for the season – though they’re also here. Dip and give us your take on the collection in the comments. cqc

Missoni Fall 2010

Misson Fall 2010 was all tribal, patch-work, bare stomachs and simply marvelous design. A well-made collection created by a mix of three generations of Missoni’s. Skirts was held together by pins, over-sized cardigans, coats and ponchos was giving a nice balance to the knitted mini-shorts and the knitted leggings. Loved the mix of different patterns and the soft, comfortable luxurious feeling the whole Missoni show just had. No other collection can be compared to the genius behind this show and each and every piece was made to perfection- slouchy, beautiful perfection. Every outfit told a story and nothing in the looks happened by incident. My obsession with the fashion house is only growing after viewing the show and I can’t believe I might just have seen the best thing coming out from the brand.
