Dsquared2 Fall 2010
Dean and Dan Caten, the twin duo behind Dsquared2 is famous for their sexy sportswear and their fashion house is built around this theme. But with their Fall 2010 show, they surprised the audience by going in a whole different direction. This collection was actually as far away as the Dsquared label we all know and adore. Kinky latex leggins in red was accompanied by different versions of sexy blacks. Leather biker jackets, fur, tight body-con numbers and a general tight, short and nude style was shown on the catwalk. I’m not sure what my reaction to this collection is. Because of the big talent behind it, I’m almost trying to convince myself to like it, but I still don’t. Details like skeleton hands gripping different body-parts as the shoulders didn’t convince me either. After seeing so many “sexy” shows during MFW, I was hoping that the Caten brothers wouldn’t walk down the same line. I’m not convinced at all, more disappointed in fact.

Heritage Research Longline Parka for Peggs & Son

Check this new Heritage Research limited edition Longline Parka for the store Peggs & Son. It is made from “Yellow Driden Ramano which is a new fabric from British Millerain using a different process to waterproof the cotton making it lighter and less waxy.” A clean look from our angle.

Tilda Swinton Gets Her Own Fragrance; Abbie Cornish Debuts Her Break-Over

Abbie Cornish’s break-over.
HAIR
• Abbie Cornish showed off a new, shorter hairstyle last night at an event in Los Angeles. She reportedly chopped her hair into a bob to celebrate her split from Ryan Phillippe, which supports Glamour‘s claim that women engage in “break-overs,” or makeovers that occur after a breakup. [Just Jared]
FRAGRANCE
• Pringle of Scotland face Tilda Swinton now has her own fragrance. The scent launches this month with Etat Libre d’Orange. It is named Like This, because when Swinton was asked what her fragrance smells and feels like, she replied “Like this.” [Perfume Shrine]
• Sarah Jessica Parker’s new fragrance, SJP NYC, is apparently for people who want to smell like strawberries — though we must note that New York City most certainly does not smell like strawberries. [Now Smell This]
Keira Knightley Wears Ladies and Dogs in Miu Miu

A good quirky print can go a long way. We had to smile when we saw Keira Knightley in this Miu Miu ensemble from the brand’s Spring 2010 collection. Knightley wore a beige lady print silk blouse with a red collar and a puppy printed skirt to the Laurence Olivier Awards Nominees Luncheon party in London today. We call this chic clothing with a sense of humor!

Marni fall 2010
Since I’m a huge Marni fan, I was very excited to view the Fall 2010 show here in Milan. Let’s say it was probably the best show of the week. I loved the collection. Almost every pieces of it. The color palette was wonderful, turquoise, red, soft brown shade and they just worked perfectly together. Simple and minimal elegance but being as far away from boring as it can possibly be. All the looks was carefully put together to perfection and I have to credit the styling. Signature statement necklaces and chunky footwear was on show and accompanied with blouses and shorts, coats, maxi dresses and twin sets. Skirts was build-up and padded at the hips to give a stronger silhouette and was matched together with knee-high socks and matching jackets. Loved the “home-made” circulated Marni pattern that was decorating the beautiful maxi dresses. I can’t be critical against this collection, it was simply perfect.

Hiroshi Tsubouchi Blue Shoes

Ah yes, another pair of blue shoes for the season. This time they come from Hiroshi Tsubouchi. They look familiar right? Take at that rear detail on this one (above). It sets it apart (just slightly) from the pack of comparable footwear. Arks in Japan has them. Good luck.

Permira Looking to Sell Its Stake in Proenza Schouler?

Proenza Schouler, fall 2010.
Over the weekend, rumors emerged that private-equity firm Permira was looking to sell its stakes in Valentino and Proenza Schouler. Valentino hasn’t been a huge hit with critics since designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli took over. Cathy Horyn took pains to remind us in today’s Times that paparazzi in Italy don’t even know who they are. But Permira president Paolo Colonna tells today’s WWD that the firm has no interest in selling Valentino. Despite the designers’ “40-watt personalities,” as Horyn describes them, the label currently has “zero debt,” according to Colonna, and would probably be more valuable in a few years.
“Valentino has had its ups and downs, but we’ve turned a corner now,” Colonna told WWD, pointing to “great results” achieved with designs by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli for the brand, with double-digit growth.
However, a source previously noted in WWD that it wouldn’t make sense to sell off Valentino in this economic climate. The source added that it would make sense, however, to sell Proenza while it’s still cool.
