Soldier Field: A Stadium and Its City

Home of the Bears, bearer of a stunning set of columns, Chicago’s Soldier Field remains one of America’s most distinctive sporting venues.
Seasoned reporter Liam T.A. Ford uncovers the stadium’s full history in Soldier Field: A Stadium and Its City. He includes the obvious, and goes into depth through the variety of sporting events that have graced the space (from rodeos to Nascar). Beyond sports, Soldier Field has played host to Catholic mass, speeches by great Americans, and stands as a grand example of the “City Beautiful” movement.
Soldier Field: A Stadium and Its City is published by University of Chicago Press.
All this supports a great cache of photographs, a selection of which may be found after the jump.

BBlessing Autumn/Winter 2010 Looks

BBlessing sends over some on the street looks from their Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. Though shot in the rough, the photos lay our a clear look at what you’ll be seeing in stores towards the latter end of the Summer. Their “Plaid Standard” as well as black and red madras get worked over on trousers, shirts, and norfolk jackets. The red and plaids stand out well in the collection – both of which may give the hesitant male a chance to dip his toes in the non-solid world. While we’re on them, we’re told that there are some subtle hints of “occult influence” in the collection though we’ll need to wait for individual style looks to examine that aspect.

The “rag & bone crafted by Timberland Boot Company” of 10 boots debuted at Project LV last week. Why we did not shoot them is beyond me. Luckily, we have some styled images for you all to view.

Guns N’ Roses Back on the Fashion Scene — This Time, It’s Slash

You heard about Axl Rose’s performances at New York Fashion Week? Slash didn’t do him one better, but he did attend a London Fashion Week fashion party — celebrating the launch of Temperley’s “Alice by Temperley” and the release of Alice and Wonderland — last night. As you would expect, he was sporting cascading black curls, black sunglasses, and a top hat — although the latter item, in the context of the Wonderland-themed party, made him seem as much like the Mad Hatter as plain old Slash. Accompanied by a cloud of bodyguards, he chilled with a wig-topped Trinny Woodall, the British T.V. fashion critic (TLC imported her Stateside with the show Trinny and Susannah Make Over America last year). Slash told us he showed up because he’s BFF with Woodall’s husband, and actually felt wildly out of place at a fashion fête. “Look, I’m wearing jeans and a shirt,” he said. “I have no idea why I am here.” And so, five minutes later, he left.

Kate Hudson is a Burberry Beauty

Burberry’s Christopher Bailey may be en-”trenched” in British fashion, but he certainly knows how to dress Hollywood’s cool girls. Yesterday Kate Hudson joined Mary-Kate Olsen, Kristen Stewart and Claire Danes to take in the Burberry Prorsum Fall 2010 show in London. In spite of the rain Hudson arrived in a dazzling green sequin Burberry dress.

Update Your Wardrobe With the Latest Spring Trends

Clockwise from top left: Fuchsia Top by Farahbella, Key Lime Anorak by Ali Ro, Sangay Shirt by Candela, Watercolor Potpourri Mini by J.Crew, and Datya Jacket by All Saints.
While the latest fall runway shows filter in from London, why not take a break and think about what you’ll be wearing this spring? Though it may not seem like spring right now with the chilly and dreary day outside, warmer temps loom ahead and stores are filling up with new merchandise. In our latest Shop-A-Matic, we filtered through some of spring’s top trends to find 130 pieces at every budget to update your wardrobe. Looking to embrace the lingerie trend? We have 24 pieces that are sexy without being overly revealing. If sweats are more your speed, we found twelve options that will keep you comfy but polished. We also enlisted the help of Emily Schuman from Cupcakes & Cashmere to pick out her finds of the season. Click ahead to see her favorites along with our picks.
Sangay Shirt by Candela
Price: $135
Why Cupcakes & Cashmere Likes It: Lingerie-inspired black lace lends a seductive feel to any outfit, and this one, with its demure boatneck and intricate pattern, is as pretty as it is versatile.
Watercolor Potpourri Mini by J.Crew
Price: $68
Why We Like It: Florals are a springtime staple, but the washed-out hues give the trend a modern spin. Tuck in a simple white tee and pair with flat sandals for an easy weekend look.
Key Lime Anorak by Ali Ro
Price: $275
Why Cupcakes & Cashmere Likes It: Slightly androgynous and in keeping with the sporty-inspired trend for spring, this unapologetically bright anorak in key-lime green is a fun addition to any wardrobe.
Datya Jacket by All Saints
Price: $420
Why Cupcakes & Cashmere Likes It: Leather for spring is another strong trend, and this lightweight jacket has an I’m-a-rocker-with-a-sophisticated-edge kind of vibe that I’ve been looking for.
Fuchsia Top by Farahbella
Price: $119
Why We Like It: Cutouts appeared in a variety of new places this spring, and here, it’s subtly sexy by flashing a hint of skin in the shoulders and back.
