New York Fashion week: Marc Jacobs Fall 2010

Marc Jacobs fall 2010 show was more about showing us that it doesn’t always have to be new and shocking to be good. I won’t even try to express myself by describing for you how refreshing it is to see a collection like this in times where the most crazy outfit wins. The show was all about “good, old times” and my first thought was that the clothes remind me of chic grandmother meets Angelina Jolie in the movie Challenging. Very 20’s, very strict and tailored but still with a touch of girlie innocence. Old-time chic with a twist of Marc added to it, is definitely a recipe for success. It’s like a breeze of fresh air to see a collection that brings us back in time, where we feel familiar and doesn’t have to stick out so much. Last seasons, it’s been all about the future and I’m really sick and tired of Gaga fever.Marc Jacobs doesn’t have to try so hard, and he really shows it here. The clothes are very romantic with neutrals and pastels in pale shades dominating the catwalk from beginning to end. Even the make-up and hair feels very natural and nude. Love the mix of romance meets means-wear and the heavy difference between the pale colors and the small hints of black and fur. The furs and three-quarter length skirts t as well as the 3-piece suit in grey was the high-light of the show. The Marc Jacobs girl showed us that stylish is all about those small details and being underestimated. I can’t help but feeling nostalgic when viewing this collection.

Adam Lambert, Liv Tyler, John Legend & More Flock to G-Star

livandagyness Adam Lambert, Liv Tyler, John Legend & More Flock to G Star

G-Star added a much needed jolt of energy to New York Fashion Week Wednesday night. The venerable denim brand not only sent eye popping colors down the runway, but it also boasted one of the season’s best front rows. Liv Tyler, who is a brand ambassador for the label, arrived in a bright blue ensemble  and took her seat next to Agyness Deyn. American Idol’s Adam Lambert nodded in approval as green and yellow styles passed by. John Legend, Estelle, Kelly Osbourne, Mena Suvari and Natasha Bedingfield were also on hand. After the show VIP guests headed to STK for cocktails and dinner before calling it a night!

The Row Fall 2010: New York Fashion week

I’m a huge fan of The Row, the only “celebrity line” even worth keeping your eye on. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen doesn’t only have a great sense of style, but they are also incredible designers. Many ppl won’t agree with me simply because they don’t deliver eye-catching collections or anything ground-breaking. I love their line because I think they create the ultimate stylish basic pieces. They truly and fully understand the need of clothes in black, white and grey that will have that perfect fit, cut, simpleness that will work for years. The clothes are for me not simple clothes because they always have a advanced twist to it. An extra detail or a special cut that I fall in love with. And what more can or should I ask for in a piece of clothing. The fall collection includes trousers and floor lenght skirts that are simply perfect. The mix of black leather and sheer materials is loose fitted, just the way I want them to be. The fashion brand is only three years old, but it’s hard to find any designers that create clothes comparable to the ones they present. What the sisters said about their latest collection was “We wanted to do something low-key and straight to the point” and I have to admit that sometimes one sentence is all that’s needed to describe 19 outfits of classic design. Minimal at it’s best!

#NYFW Temperley London Fall 2010 Collection

temperley1 #NYFW Temperley London Fall 2010 Collection

Photos as fashion!  Temperley London’s Fall 2010 collection used the work of fashion photographer Norman Parkinson to create a true fashion installation.  Alice Temperley reinterpreted Parkinson’s iconic images of fashion and designed timeless clothes for modern leading ladies.  We viewed these wonderful designs alongside the photographs of these women which gave us an amazing perspective.  The true inspiration of Temperley’s show was that the embellished canvases will support a worthy cause.  She will donate money raised by auctioning these photographs to Oxfam to support African Women in Mali.

#NYFW Mulberry Fall 2010 Collection

mulberry #NYFW Mulberry Fall 2010 Collection

A great bag is a girl’s best friend and the Fall 2010 Mulberry collection didn’t disappoint. The show, which took place at the exclusive Soho House, was decorated to delight. Leopard wallpaper, rows of gold chain curtains and five life sized colorful sculptures of leopards surrounded the runway adding intriguing scenery to highlight the collection. Handbags were featured in all different shapes and sizes and included looks for every occasion. Models were dressed to impress, in jackets, dresses, skirts and scarves in black, blue, plum and leopard prints mimicking the overall vibe of the venue.  Jessica Stroup and lucky lady Alexa Chung, who has as Mulberry bag named in her honor were spotted. We may not have a bag named for us, but each attendee received a marvelous Mulberry tote bag of their own! Truly, we will be carrying this look with us for weeks to come.

Rodarte Fall 2010: New York Fashion week

Rodarte’s view on a fall collection is quite different from many other designers. When black and dark colors are dominating the catwalk and reflect the fall/winter for most fashion houses, Rodarte swings the other way, naturally. The show could as well have been a spring show with the pale and pastel flowered beginning to the snow white end of the story. The collection is daring, to say the least. I simply love all of the dresses and are happy to see that the signature Rodarte bandage style are still included and on show. The short silk chiffon creations we saw during their spring show are now in a longer model and instead of fitted, they are now loose. You say lazy, I say trend-setter!! This collection is not a copy of their last one with added material, folks. The spring show was dark and evil compared to this one and the newly found Mulleavy dreamworld. I am left confused but sizzling. The sisters explained the collection by telling it was a new way of exploring their Mexican roots and the idea of sleepwalking. As long as it’s this good, we don’t really need an explanation, do we? Patchwork are on show and they are playing around with chiffon, vintage lace, burnout velvet which are mixed together and then draped with even more fabric to leave us stunned, amazed, in love.

Keeping up With Kim Kardashian

 Keeping up With Kim Kardashian

Keeping up With Kim Kardashian Kim Kardashian has been busy this Fashion Week, launching her eponymous fragrance at Sephora, serving as one of the celebrity models in the Heart Truth’s Red Dress show, and debuting a line for Bebe, on which she collaborated with sisters Kourtney and Khloe, at Style 360 Tuesday morning. I visited Kim backstage after the show, which featured a heady array of curve-hugging dresses, playful rompers, and other Kardashian-esque pieces, to chat about the colorful line, her favorite trend, and stepping behind the camera for an upcoming documentary series on celebrity branding—a subject to which she’s no stranger.

Fug Girls: Jessica Biel Has a Swooning Fit at Oscar de la Renta

We, and many fashion editors, know from painful experience that Oscar de la Renta’s shows thrive on punctuality. So it was no surprise to find a line outside the venue already, even though we arrived for Wednesday’s show about fifteen minutes before its scheduled start time — which for a lot of shows means, “Time to start thinking about maybe turning on the lights,” but for Oscar, it means, “Time to get in your seat or else you are going to have to peek through the keyhole.”

It was a surprise, though, to get inside and then watch the time tick away.

The only possible explanation: Marquee guest Jessica Biel’s seat remained starkly empty. We wondered if it was a traffic emergency, or perhaps a tragic crimping accident. But at around 1:30, Biel strolled in looking remarkably calm, collected, stress-free — and, we are compelled by journalistic integrity to add, fantastic. Her hair was loose around her face and curled, and her dress may have been a dusty purple, but we couldn’t tell because she never removed her divine gray wool coat. We get that; we might not have wanted to part with that thing, either.
