Betsey Johnson’s Tribute to Alexander McQueen

betseytributetomcqueen Betsey Johnson’s Tribute to Alexander McQueen

Leave it to Betsey Johnson to make people smile in spite of a tragedy. At her Fall 2010 show Sunday evening, the designer sent out a mystery look that was listed on her run of show as Queen “?” That queen turned out to be a fitting and uniquely Betsey tribute to the late Alexander McQueen. The crowd burst into applause as this regal ruler hit the runway with several roses, big red lips and a cape covered in mustaches. It was decidedly irreverent and fitting of both Johnson’s quirky aesthetic and McQueen’s legacy. Stylist Patricia Field, who sat front row, honored McQueen by wearing his famous skull scarf on her hat. And so as not to end things on a sad note, Johnson followed her homage by sending four ladies down the runway with letters on their behinds. Their message was clear–L-O-V-E!

#NYFW Kelly Osbourne Hits the Runway for Betsey Johnson

kellyosborne #NYFW Kelly Osbourne Hits the Runway for Betsey Johnson
It’s one thing to sit in the front row, but it’s quite another to walk on the runway. And though Kelly Osbourne has attended several of Betsey Johnson’s shows, Sunday marked her first stroll on the designer’s catwalk. Osbourne modeled three looks from Johnson’s Fall 2010 collection; she opened the show as a “bandit,” then came out as a “bank clerk,” and finally she looked quite glam as a sultry “madame.” Osbourne was quite the trooper, wearing a bandanna over her face at one point and a mustache and another. We’re sure Ozzy and Sharon are so proud!

#NYFW Molly Sims Sends the Paparazzi into Overdrive

mollysims #NYFW Molly Sims Sends the Paparazzi into Overdrive Sure we think Molly Sims is beautiful and we must admit that we are slightly obsessed with her shiny blonde locks, but when we spotted dozens of paparazzi chasing the CoverGirl model inside Bryant Park we were a bit confused. Sims, who was heading in to the Diane von Furstenberg show, was escorted into The Tent by a security team who helped shield her from the flashbulbs. So we’re curious as to why she didn’t want her picture taken and also as to why mass chaos ensued when she arrived?

Alice Ritter’s Fall 2010 Collection Chicly Combines New York and Paris Style

Alice Ritter’s Fall 2010 Collection Chicly Combines New York and Paris Style

Alice Ritter’s Fall 2010 Collection Chicly Combines New York and Paris Style Leave it to designer Alice Ritter to create a totally chic, and utterly wearable, Garance Doré-inspired fall 2010 collection (and to offer an array of Parisian pastries right along with it). At her presentation yesterday, Ritter told me that Doré's street shots give her a daily peek into Paris style (the designer moved to New York from the City of Light over nine years ago). She noted that in New York, women rock a more “free-spirited” vibe, while in Paris “there’s an unwritten code, making for a more uniform look.” Lucky for us, Ritter’s fall 2010 collection (filled with oversize knits, plaid bloomers, wool capes, and nerdy/sexy glasses) gives girls the best of both worlds, chicly joining aesthetics of the two cities.

#NYFW Hervé Léger Fall 2010 Collection

herveleger #NYFW Hervé Léger Fall 2010 Collection

For Fall 2010 Max Azria took the iconic Hervé Léger bandage dress and moved it forward into the future. Laced up styles felt both sporty and sexy; they highlighted the female form and fit like chic armor. Pants, jackets and skirts were as strong as the staple dresses conveying a sense of cool confidence. Pops of neon added a jolt to the achromatic palette. A grey and neon green enamel beaded bandage dress stood out, while black and white laced confections were both simple and sexy.  Plays on shape, color, and texture had us envisioning these designs in Avatar. And you don’t need 3D glasses to appreciate Azria’s aesthetic.

With the sound of a heart beat blaring from the speakers and the nearly 45 minute wait, the crowd was thick with anticipation for the Thakoon Fall 2010 Runway Show. And once the first look hit the catwalk, guests knew they wouldn’t be disappointed. Masterfully crafted tops, detailed textured skirts and embellished dresses gave the collection a rich will, while fur coats with divine patterns made a luxe statement. Front row faithfuls, like Vogue’s Anna Wintour and actress Malin Akerman, took it all in marveling at Thakoon’s impeccably designed creations.

Supershiny Nails at Zac Posen

 Supershiny Nails at Zac Posen

Supershiny Nails at Zac Posen Is the matte nail-polish trend coming to an end? This morning, supershiny fingers and toes were shown by manicurist Deborah Lippmann at Zac Posen. Lippmann painted digits with My Romance, a color she describes as a “sheer, pink stain.” The polish was topped off with a layer of Addicted to Speed topcoat, adding a reflective, glossy finish.
