#NYFW Style Setter: Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet
The proximity of Stacey Bendet’s Alice + Olivia store to the Tents at Bryant Park, makes her an obvious New York Fashion Week style setter. Her boutique, which is located on 40th Street serves as an unofficial retreat from the chaos. Bendet, who became famous for her flattering and versatile pants, has since branched out and created must have party dresses, sexy tanks, a line of shoes with Payless, and sparkly Keds to boot. Bendet will show her Fall 2010 collection tonight at Provocateur; Mickey Avalon will perform and The Misshapes will spin for the crowd. In the midst of putting the finishing touches on her collection, Bendet shared some of her favorite things with GlamChic. ~Nola Weinstein
What’s inspiring you now?
I have been having a Tim Burton obsession. I love Alice in Wonderland and I love his drawings, his films…he’s like creativity personified. And my daughter Eloise. Eloise picks up my clothing and has this funny way of draping things around her and I watch the way the fabric falls and sometimes it just looks really cool and different. No one would believe this but its true! So I guess Beetle Juice meets a one year old who loves fuzzy hoodies and animal blankies? I am probably scaring people now.
Where will you be wining and dining this season?
We have made Nobu a habit since it’s five blocks from our apartment. I also love the Waverly Inn when it’s cold out and Kitchenette for brunch on the weekends…
#NYFW Zoe Saldana Front Row at Prabal Gurung
Zoe Saldana has been a New York Fashion Week regular for several years now, but this season her presence is far more important to designers. The Avatar star just happens to have been in the highest grossing movie of all time. Yesterday afternoon Saldana sat front row at Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2010 show. Gurung, who has dressed Demi Moore and Oprah Winfrey for the December cover of O, made his runway debut in Bryant Park and was happy to have the stunning star there for support. Expect to see Saldana making the rounds throughout the week.
#NYFW Elise Øverland Fall 2010 Collection
Elise Øverland was the hot ticket on Saturday night. Stars and models alike flocked to view her forward looking Fall 2010 Collection. Her fashions used leather, fur and other interesting combinations. Sleek designs and rich draping were the highlight of her collection. Her eye catching designs are sure to turn heads this fall.

Terrific textures and fabulous fabrics highlighted the Vivienne Tam Collection. Based on the Chinese zodiac, her delightful designs featured layered looks, luscious patterns and dreamy draping that complemented this collection perfectly. We left feeling inspired by what can be done with fabric.

#NYFW Malandrino Fall 2010 Collection
Malandrino went into the wild with her Fall 2010 Collection. Fierce animal prints, slashed leather pieces, feathers and fur gave looks a chic jungle aesthetic. Distressed chiffon pieces gave a bit of edge to a traditionally pretty fabric. “It’s a magic moment for me,” said Malandrino, who forwent her usual runway show in favor of a presentation. “This has a more personal feel.” Guests like Whitney Port and Mena Suvari checked out the designs.

Michelle Obama Favorite Maria Pinto to Close

Designer Maria Pinto revealed she is closing her business operations and store in Chicago. A favorite of Michelle Obama, Pinto expects to file for bankruptcy protection this week. She started her own label in 1991, and cites ”increasing economic challenges and soft buying trends at the top end of the apparel market” as a reason for the closure. She added, ”I am confident that the ‘Maria Pinto’ name will not go away, but will merely take a break, before emerging in a new form. I plan on using the next several months to explore different avenues and opportunities for business, as economic conditions improve.” [Chicago Sun Times]

#NYFW DKNY Fall 2010 Collection
The art and soul of New York City inspired the DKNY Fall 2010 collection. Individuality brought a variety of influences into play including Bauhaus grids, deco florals, and a nod to school girl glam. Plaid, color-blocked and leather pleated kilts remind us of Cher Horowitz’s Clueless ensemble. Major shine came from sequin patches and metallic beaded details. Overall the collection is fit for the modern urbanista and one thing is clear–it’s Donna’s city, we just live in it!
