Which Big Time Investors Will We See at New York Fashion Week?

investor Which Big Time Investors Will We See at New York Fashion Week?Yesterday it was revealed that Lanvin backer Ralph Bartel is also an investor in the business of shoemaker-turned-ready-to-wear-designer Devi Kroell.

Will Bartel make an appearance at Kroell’s February 15 presentation to show his support of the label, which opened a new Madison Avenue storefront last fall? It’s unlikely, given the Travelzoo founder’s reluctancy to talk on the record about his relationship with the brand.

Yet there’s no denying that the fashion industry’s acquisitions market is finally heating up after a three-year freeze. That means you can bet on plenty of other investors lurking around the tents this season. Here’s who we hope to see:

Every Issue of Self-Service Will Be Available During LFW

from%20self%20service Every Issue of Self Service Will Be Available During LFWNew York Fashion Week layers its shows one over the other with anywhere from three to five shows in a single time slot, but London’s perfectly organized with one show each hour.

What they fail to allot time for are the exhibitions, pop-ups and creative experiments that take over London during its Fashion Week.

We’ve already made mental notes to check out Liberty’s Carnaby Street celebration and Notting Hill’s Wolf & Badger — and Selfridge’s Nicholas Kirkwood collection’s always a must, but now we’ll have to plan a trip to the St. Martin’s Lane Hotel for Self-Service 1-31.

Why is Liberty of London So Collaboration Crazy?

liberty Why is Liberty of London So Collaboration Crazy?Liberty of London is wild about collaborations.

In 2009, the famous textile merchant partnered with Nike, APC and Hermes, amongst others.

And this year, we’ve already told you about Liberty of London’s partnerships with Nicholas Kirkwood and Target for Spring 2010. They’ve also done a makeup collection with MAC and now, a range with Milan concept boutique 10 Corso Como. The collection features the retailer’s iconic ‘Ianthe’ print as reinterpreted by artist Kris Ruhs.

We know that collabs are the “thing to do” right now. But why the gargantuan push into other markets?

Fashion Week Takes Over Taxi TV

alternative%20apparel Fashion Week Takes Over Taxi TVIf new shoes and extra caffeine won’t put you in Fashion Week mode, Taxi TV will.

Jason Wu popped up on screen last week, and even when you mute the mini-screen it’s hard to miss Kim Kardashian’s-hanging-from-a-swing fragrance commercial, and despite fashion overload, it’s the only time of year we don’t mute Taxi TV.

Last season Cynthia Rowley debuted a short film and this season, Alternative Apparel’s airing their new video.

MAC’s Tabloid Collection Means that We Can All Look Airbrushed

MAC Tabloid Collection MACs Tabloid Collection Means that We Can All Look AirbrushedOn February 25, MAC is launching what one might call high-def makeup for the masses. It’s called Tabloid, natch.

A friend of mine who writes about television–and is on TV quite a bit herself–has been waxing on about how high-definition makeup is the future of the beauty industry for years. While companies like MAC have created high-def collections in the past, they’ve always been marketed to makeup artists, not regular people.

My new leather shorts

What’s the point of having an office in the heart of the center with shops surrounding you if you don’t get to use your lunch-breaks to do some shopping? Luckily, I’m my own boss and I can do whatever I want to : ) Unfortunately, I share office space with my boyfriend which means I have to sneak in the shopping bags. So this is how it normally works: you do your shopping and on the way back make sure to pass by the supermarket/kiosk and buy some sugary stuff (smoothie, cookies, fruits, anything filled with sugar). It’s proved sugar make us happy, right? So when you sneak back behind your desk, you throw the men some sugar and they will after the second glance at your blue paper bag understand that you did it again, but instead of react in a negative way, they will in a positive one : ) Ok, Ok, won’t keep you on hold any longer, say hi to my new little friend:
